A set of models from the same lineage, usually offered in several sizes.
Think of it like
A car model offered as a hatchback, sedan, and SUV — same DNA, different sizes for different needs.

How it actually works
A family shares architecture and training recipe, released in multiple sizes and sometimes tuned variants. This lets you trade capability for cost without switching ecosystems. Prompts and behavior tend to transfer within a family more cleanly than across families.
