The short version: Looking up terms is anonymous. If you sign in, we store your email and the terms you save so your saved terms follow you across devices — nothing more. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you. The browser extension reads pages on your own device; the one thing that leaves your device is a sentence you explicitly ask us to decode.
Just browsing. You can search and read terms without an account. Nothing about you is stored on our servers when you do this.
If you sign in with Google. To let you save terms that sync across your devices, we receive and store two things: your email address, and the identifiers of the terms you choose to save (for example rag). This information is stored on our behalf by Supabase, our database and authentication provider. We never see or receive your Google password.
Decoding a sentence. When you paste a sentence into the Decode box and press Decode, that sentence is sent to our server and on to Google's Gemini API, which writes the plain-English explanation. Nothing else about you is sent with it — no account, no page address, no identifier. We don't store the sentence, and we don't use it to train anything.
We do not sell or rent your data, we run no advertising, and we use no third-party analytics or tracking.
Deleting your data. You can remove any saved term at any time, or sign out to stop syncing. To delete your account and all associated data, email us at the address below and we'll remove it.
Access is opt-in. The extension has no access to any page until you turn it on (a one-time permission you grant from its popup). You can turn it off again at any time.
Page text is read locally, never collected. Once enabled, to underline known terms the extension looks at the visible text of the page you're on, entirely within your browser. Page content is not stored, logged, sent to us, or shared with anyone.
Decoding a sentence sends that sentence, and only when you ask. If you highlight a sentence and click Decode, that one sentence is sent to our server and on to Google's Gemini API to be explained. Nothing is sent unless you click Decode — highlighting alone sends nothing — and the address of the page, your account and any other page content stay on your device. We don't store the sentence. You can switch this off entirely from the extension's popup, which leaves the highlighter working on its own.
Saving is optional, and uses the same account as this website. If you sign in with Google inside the extension, the terms you save are stored in your account (through Supabase) so they appear in the web app and sync across your devices — exactly as saving on the website does. We store your email address and the identifiers of the terms you save, and nothing more. If you don't sign in, you simply can't save from the extension, and nothing is sent anywhere.
No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no remote code.
Supabase, which stores sign-in and saved terms for us. Google, which receives a sentence you choose to decode, through its Gemini API, and returns the explanation. No one else — and never advertisers or data brokers.
Decoder's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Decoder is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13.
